As this was Reading Week I focused more on practicing things I enjoyed playing too however I maintained focus on technique throughout.
As I was travelling I could only manage an hour of practice each day on my practice pad however I could access rudiments on my phone.
Monday 24th was spent on 7/4 fills on my pad to increase my fluidity and overall feel of the time signature (1 hour)
Tuesday 25th was spent on left hand traditional grip to improve my jazz playing (1 hour)
Wednesday 26th was when I visited the studio where I used to work in Mansfield, The Old Library. Here I was able to practice my studio skills with my former co-workers and also got 30 minutes of kit practice on Metal playing to improve my knowledge and playing of the genre.
Thursday 27th I spent roughly an hour on reciting Crazy Army from memory at 95bpm
Friday 28th I spent 30 minutes practicing to music on my practice pad as I did not have much time and I did not want to go a day without practice.
Saturday 29th I got the train back to Guildford and I spent 1 hour and 30 minutes on the rudiments in the course book, despite knowing them, I wanted to re-assure my memory of them for future lectures.
Sunday 30th I spent 3 hours in Room 7 playing to my phone on shuffle demonstrating a variety of fills and grooves from different genres to improve on my flexibility between genres.

Weekly Practise Update 17th Oct - 23rd Oct
In my first practice session on Monday 17th I focused on fills used in more swung and jazzy styles of music such as jazz and funk as preparation for the lecture on 16th note grooves commonly found in those genres. I focused on using my left hand primarily during the rudiment practice session to increase the fluidity of my fills.
Tuesday 18th was spent on grooves, getting behind the music particularly and making it sound appropriate to the song. This was to help with studio work - if I am playing toa song then this makes me sound more stylistically aware. Outside of music I maintained my practice to my second language which is Spanish.
Wednesday 19th had 30 minutes of unscheduled pad practice on singles as well as the 2 hour theory past paper from 2014 in which i achieved a distinction and the 1 hour spent on a keyboard revising major and minor scales from memory.
Thursday 20th had 1 hour of keyboard technique practice so that I can portray ideas to bands easier without the use of tuned percussion. There was also a 45 minute rehearsal with that was meant to be an hour however I had project group.
Friday 21st is when I perform random rudiments focusing equally on both hands whilst looking at my technique in a mirror to ensure the grip is perfect and not tensing or anything. I also jam with random classmates for fun and to improve at the same time.
Despite the weekends having nothing scheduled as I like to remain free lest there is a gig opportunity or something I spent oj Saturday 22nd 1 hour on my practice pad focusing on my left hand's traditional grip and on Sunday 23rd I recorded a drum part for a friends song which will be featured on my blog when it is released. After this I spent 3 hours in Room 7 playing to songson my phone on shufle varying from Jazz to Metal

This project is to keep me occupied when I am not performing or practising

Band Skills Formative Assessment Review
What happened?
I performed Adele's 'Rolling in the Deep' with a band and a click
How was I feeling?
Although I had practised the song frequently with a different band I was nervous with working people which I had never played with prior to the assessment. This worried me as I was depending on them to listen to me and stay in time
What was good and bad about the experience?
Although i did keep a solid backbeat throughout the piece and played in all the right places the performances however, as the band had not played before there wasn't much of a connection leaving the performance as a whole feeling a bit stiff. Any mistakes that may have been were not dwelled on during the performance but they were mentally reviewed after.
What sense can i make/tale from the assessment
I should not only rehearse the song with people i commonly play with but with the people i will be taking the assessment with too. This way we can have a better connection whilst performing making our performance more refined.
What more could I have done
I could have got into contact with those in my lecture and rehearsed with them to get a more fluent performance. I feel like a practised the song an adequate amount on my own and with others just not those I will be performing with. When I get the footage back I will focus on what else i can do
Action Plan
For the next Band Skills assessment, I will rehearse the song with those I will be performing to improve the final performance.I will also listen to different versions of the song to give me a wider understanding of what can be done to it to make it more interesting.

Technical Development Formative Assessment Review
Using Gibbs' Reflective Cycle I will assess how my formative assessment went well and could have ben improved
What happened?
I performed a 4/4 shuffle groove at 160 bpm where I demonstrated 3 bars of the groove itself and a bar of fills using a selected rudiment. The rudiment was the Para-Diddle-Diddle and I played it around the kit. I repeated this pattern for 16 bars and in my opinion it went incredibly well.
How was I feeling?
I was feeling confident for my assessment as i had practised at least and hour daily prior for the week and I had practiced the content earlier that day. Due to me doing graded examinations prior to the assessment I hardly felt nervous about being assessed by someone.
What was good and bad about the experience?
Overall the experience went exceedingly well, I stayed in time in all 3 exercises however I did have to alter my septuplet doubles as I was buzzing them making them sound more like a roll when they were meant to be lear doubles.
What sense can i make/take from the assessment?
I felt prepared and comfortable whilst performing however I need to make sure my doubles do not merge into a roll, this habit likely bled through from my orchestral and show playing.
What more could i have done?
In order to prepare more for the assessment and i can practise y doubles more rather than other rudiments/playing alone to a backing track or click.
Action Plan
For the next assessment i will put aside things i regularly practise and focus even more on the assessment material.
